Facts & Figures
Ukimido is a hexagonal wooden gazebo (pavilion) "floating" over the Sagiike Pond within the Nara Park near Kasuga Taisha Shrine. It is a very popular photo spot for tourists and locals, especially when the pavilion is beautifully reflected on the surface of the pond. The roof of the Ukimido is thatched with Japanese cypress bark. The best time to visit this place is during the summer nights when the floating pavilion is illuminated. Just cross the wooden bridge, which connects the shore with the pavilion, and enjoy the scenery. You can also rent a boat there from late March through late November.
