Osaka Street Scenes
Explore the real Osaka
I usually visit Osaka always in combination with Kyoto. What I like about the city is that it is a bit rougher than Tokyo and the people are more direct and outgoing. Before you dive into the city I recommend you to get an overview from the observation decks of the Umeda Sky Building or the Abeno Harukas skyscraper.
The sheer scale of Osaka is just mind-blowing. The concrete jungle is extending till the horizon. When I am exploring a new place I sometimes just start walking for hours without a real plan. I am really interested in the hidden parts of a city and to get a feel for the “real” life in the suburbs. As a starter I recommend you a night walk through the Dotonbori area. My tips for local activities

How about exploring the highlights and hidden gems of the fascinating metropolis Osaka with a local guide? The personalized tour by our partner GetYourGuide can take between 3 - 4 hours. For more details check out this page >
Dotonbori

This entertainment district is a must-see especially at night. The futuristic look & feel of the area is absolutely unique. Enjoy the night clubs, good food and the happy people there.
Shinsekai Area

This is a rougher part of Osaka. The old entertainment district of Shinsekai gives you an insight view of the atmosphere of the 1950s and 60s.
Osaka Station

I think the area around Osaka Station is changing the fastest in the last couples of years. Every time I walk here I discover something new.
Side Streets

In Europe the power supply lines in the cities are usually hidden in the ground. The opposite is true for Osaka. Seeing this beautiful chaos in the side streets is why I like to explore this place. The pic was taken in the Kita Umeda district.
Tenno-ji Park Walk

If you would like to leave the Osaka concrete jungle behind you go to the largest park of the city with the name Tenno-ji. You can spend the whole day there to stroll around and to discover all the hidden and not so hidden spots.
