Gion District in Kyoto
My 100 Best Moments in Japan - 42/100geisha kimono edo time
"This photo of a woman wearing a kimono was taken in Gion. It is an old preserved district in Kyoto and my favorite part of the city. My dream came true when I had the chance to stay there in an old ryokan. I felt like the Edo period (1603 - 1867) came back to life. If you are lucky you will be able to see Geishas on the street, which are still performing their art in Kyoto."
